It seems like yesterday when we brought you the news that Luke Robinson, was signing a scholarship with Wigan Athletic - and we're delighted to now report that the former AC Hoylake star has just signed his first professional contract with the Latics.
An AC Hoylake star in the making
Luke joined AC Hoylake when he was just six-years-old, winning numerous honours and captaining Wirral Schoolboys in the age group above.
It was also during his time at AC Hoylake that he was first noticed on the international stage and gained trials with the Scottish FA – he’s now Scotland U19 international.
Luke stayed with the club until he was 13, when he was snapped up by Wrexham's academy.
During his time with Wrexham, he captained the Calday Grammar School team to the final of the National School Cup at the Britannia Stadium, where they were crowned champions.
So impressive were his displays for the North Wales club that a number of clubs around the north west and beyond tracked his progress, and he was also handed the honour of opening the Aldi superstore in Wrexham while at the Red Dragons!
But it was Wigan Athletic who won the race for Luke's signature though, paying Wrexham a compensation fee to secure his services on a two-year scholarship back in 2018.
A flying start
He got off to an absolute flyer in his first season as a scholar, being part of a treble-winning team and bagging goal of the month for February 2019 with a stunning free kick.
Luke continued to impress at Wigan for both the Under 18 and Under 23 sides this season, where his performances were crucial during Latics' run in the FA Youth Cup this season, and he’s been rewarded with a two-and-a-half year professional contract with the Lancashire club.
Academy manager, Gregor Rioch, said:“Luke’s reward of a professional contract is due to his dedication and commitment over the past four years at the academy.
“His progression from schoolboy to professional and his development as a Scotland youth international has been a pleasure to witness.
“Luke has a huge amount of talent - with ambition to match - and if he maintains these qualities he has a very good chance of a successful career in the game.
Everyone at AC Hoylake thanks Luke for being such an exemplary ambassador for the club and an example to all our players that hard work, dedication and ability can see them make the step up.
